Community Cycleworks

Recycling – Training – Empowering

Founded in 2012 by Matt Beale Collins and Stewart Vanns, Community Cycleworks is a not for profit organisation that runs build-a-bike courses, bikefix, and road and mountain biking rideouts, for young people in the London Borough of Southwark and beyond.

We are very proud of the promotional video that Southwark Council have produced to promote our Build a Bike courses. Clapham Film Unit have captured the spirit of the courses wonderfully, showing teamwork, coordination, problem-solving and the joy of bike riding. See our lovely new promotional video here:

Our overall aim is to encourage more young people to use a bicycle as a means of transport as well as for fun. Our young mechanics learn to fix their own bikes, and they often tell a friend who comes along too. They also have the opportunity to discover London’s highlights and landmarks on one of our regular ride-outs.

These rides are up to 15 miles in length, and show how quickly a bike can take you to Buckingham Palace for tea with the Queen, or to Tate Modern or the Science Museum. All hopefully changing how they see a bike, as something fun, and useful as a viable everyday form of personal, sustainable, transport.
