London bike routes

Is this a great idea to identify the best cycle routes? Time will tell. Anything that helps people choose to cycle over using their car for short journeys is good in our eyes. Route Plan Roll has been set up to encourage and support those who want to make their next trip by bike in London. The site identifies the best cycle lanes to use. It then presents this cycle lane network in a handy, quick to understand map that you can download and keep to use when you want your next trip to be by bike. One less barrier.

School bikes

We have often wondered if this was feasible – to travel from school to events like swimming outings by bike instead of bus. What with a crammed curriculum as well as maybe some health and safety questions some schools may ponder, it must seem like an impossibility. So pleased then that Tullygally School in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, has made this possible. Well done to teacher John O’Hagan and all those involved in this fantastic project. Multi disciplined

A nice multi-tool almost sneaks into the N+1 category in our opinion.😁 The Brompton tool… the Blackburn tool wallet. Take a look at the selection reviewed. All for roadside repairs. https://buff.ly/3HDcszh I tend to keep a multi-tool in my pocket, every waking hour of every day. Is that sad? Or am I just mega-prepared for everything that life can throw at you?!! #tooltuesdays #bikerepairs #homebikemechanics #cycling #everydaycycling

What the hex!

Here is a very deep dive into the venerable Hex or Allen Key. Be warned, this is proper nerdery, and yet is surprisingly readable (or I find it so at any rate!). Why are they called Allen Keys? “Allen wrench (part of the original Allen Manufacturing Company) is a registered brand trademark” – well now you know! https://buff.ly/3Lfj8G5 #tooltuesdays

Cargo conversion

Take a read of how this family ditched their car for a cargo bike. https://buff.ly/3gv2jJ2 What a fantastic thing to do and what an inspiration to us all. Although my bike is always my first transport choice, I’d certainly love to ditch my car completely, and I always feel jealous of those I meet who don’t own a car. This makes it seem much more possible.

Signs of safety

Interesting… supporting rider safety with road signs encouraging drivers to keep a safe 1.5m distance when overtaking actually reduced the amount of close passes significantly in a trial in East Lothian, Scotland. https://buff.ly/3gv62qe Can’t be bad. How about rolling this out across the entire country? #zerocarboncities #bikeisbest #healthbystealth #cyclingfortransport #cycling
