Bike commmuting

A nice article from our good friends @cyclingweekly around what to look out for in a commuting bike. Includes bells and whistles! Not too geeky and not too bike snobby – just about hits the right tone. https://buff.ly/3kdNsU8 #bike #bikelife #active #commute

Voucher scheme

So the Fix Your Bike voucher scheme is up and running but the website buckled under the pressure and crashed. OK, but can we try and be positive about this, please? Lots of people want to get their bike fixed and go riding. That’s great! https://buff.ly/2P87D7C #bikevoucherscheme #bike

Bike is best

Wouldn’t it be nice if when the lockdown is completely over, those that have rediscovered the joy of cycling aren’t squeezed off the road by an avalanche of speeding motor vehicles? Please consider signing this petition which may in a small way, make this happen:  https://buff.ly/32QQbg0 #bikelife #bke #roadpeace

Boom or bust

More clouds. Was it all too good to be true? Is the cycling boom going bust? Can a few #naysayers scupper the glorious cycling revolution? Would it not be a huge disaster to cancel the plans for a cycling and walking future for the sake of a few moaning minnies and petrol heads. https://buff.ly/3hHf6a7 #bike #cyclinglife

Bik theft boom

Every silver lining has a cloud. The lockdown boom in cycling has been tempered by a corresponding huge, 50%, increase in bike theft. Makes you want to weep. https://buff.ly/2EdyoW2 #bike #cyclinglife #biketheft

Jess Varnish

The former Olympic track cyclist @JessVarnish lost her employment tribunal appeal recently: https://buff.ly/3jc4Wj1 – It doesn’t seem right that the complex legal case should hinge on whether she was technically “employed” by British Cycling/UK Sport, or not; and not the core issues of sexism and bullying. The ramifications of this case have been far-reaching. The way top-level high-performance athletes are coached has changed. These changes in approach have been mainly due to Jessica Varnish speaking out. It’s not fair that Jess has been hung out to dry and she’d have every right to feel very bitter. I hope she doesn’t.

Bike thief

Police went to arrest man over a stolen bike and found more than 100 stolen bikes. I’m not exactly sure why bike theft makes me feel so angry? Is it the juxtaposition of good and evil (sorry, am I getting too existential here?!!). Is it that I’m biased because of my somewhat slightly obsessive passion for cycling (well, maybe, probably, definitely). Whatever it is, it turns me all boomerish in my judgemental condemnation and I don’t like that either. https://buff.ly/2CEr452 #bike #biketheft

Tan wall

Continental has released a special edition tan wall of its fabulous GP5000 road bike tyres. Surely gotta love a bit of tan wall! Tan wall tyres have had a resurgence in recent years. Some people love ’em, some people hate ’em. A bit like marmite (don’t you hate it when people say that?!). Personally, I love ’em and a GPS 5000 with tan wall sends a little frisson of excitement fizzing down my spine! Oooooh! https://buff.ly/2WdSRjq #bike #bikelife #tyres

Post-pandemic boom

Buying a bike: “It’s the best thing I’ve ever bought,” says 57-year-old Jude in this @BBCNews article. Hey Jude, well said my friend! Maintaining the cycling boom, post-pandemic has got to be a priority to get people moving, to get our congested roads moving. The more cycle lanes, the more bikes, the more bikes, the less 4-wheeled vehicles and the more that encourages more people to ride instead of drive.  I think it’s called a virtuous circle. https://buff.ly/2ZdKO7e #bikeboom #bike #cycle
